My first time in San Juan was early this year, January with few of my friends. It took me a long while before I was able to visit LU. To be honest La Union was not included on my Travel list, ever. I'm a sucker for serene and pristine white beaches and La Union was not blessed with those white fine sands. But La Union is no doubt the prime surfing destination in Luzon. It’s an easy getaway for surfers and wannabes wanting to enjoy the waves. And wait, not to mention the "Night-life".

Few weeks ago, I was given a chance to visit LU again (for the 2nd time) but this time was kinda different. Aside from travelling with my blogger friends, we are also accompanied by Paymaya. Paymaya totally got us covered during this short trip. Paymaya helped us enjoy a hassle-free time at the beach because we can still pay for stuff cashless–all we got was our trusty smartphone to buy food and drinks in all our "fave" establishments.

How PayMaya works

PayMaya is an app that gives you a virtual prepaid payment card. You download it and register with any mobile number and you get a Mastercard if you’re a Smart subscriber, a Visa if you’re a non-Smart subscriber. You can load up your PayMaya at any of the over 15,000 top up stations nationwide which include SM Business Centers, Robinsons Department Stores, 7-Eleven, Petron stations along NLEX and Ministop with Touchpay Kiosks, UnionBank ATMs, Shopwise, Wellcome, 2Go outlets, Smart Padala centers, Palawan Pawnshop, and online banking via BDO and UnionBank.

You can use both the virtual and physical card to pay online in any website that accepts card payments like airlines and shopping sites. In the app itself, you can also pay utility bills, buy discounted airtime load and Cignal prepaid load.

You can also buy the physical PayMaya card at www.paymaya.com for P150, free of delivery charges nationwide. Like the app, you load it up with cash and use it to pay in any establishment here and abroad, anywhere cards are accepted. You can link the card to the app to have a shared e-wallet and to monitor your transactions via the app.

Like credit cards, the PayMaya physical card is accepted in any brick-and-mortar outlet that accepts card payments. However, unlike credit cards, PayMaya is prepaid and you can only spend the amount that is loaded in your account. With this, you can control your spending more easily. You also don’t need to fill out paper forms and wait for an approval to get one. Unlike debit cards, you don’t have to open a bank account to get PayMaya. Finally, PayMaya doesn’t charge for any annual or maintenance fees.

“If you have PayMaya, you can pay for what you need without having to carry cash, which poses a security risk. If your card gets lost or stolen, you can simply go to the app to block your card yourself for security purposes,” explained Kayanan.

“It’s convenient because when you shop online, for example, you don’t have to be physically there and wait for the delivery, which is usually what happens when you pay through cash-on-delivery or COD.”

When the user needs cash, all they have to do is withdraw using their PayMaya physical card through any Bancnet ATM nationwide. Sending money and withdrawing cash are applicable only to upgraded accounts. Users must undergo the BSP policy called Know-Your-Customer (KYC) to upgrade the account which is free.

And if you run out of load, you can load up almost everywhere.

Like sailors to a siren, I am really drawn to the fishy femme. The beauty and the grace are what interested me at first, but it has become something I have an almost obsession with at this point. It felt like that there's a sleeping mermaid inside of me wanted to come out to lure and swim around. But don't worry I had no intention of getting surgery to become part fish. I just got so fascinated with anything mermaid at this point.

Few weeks ago my blogger friends and I got invited to L'Sirene Botique Resort in Baler. From the name itself you already got an idea of what this boutique resort will be. And Yes, you're all right! L'Sirene, is a boutique resort inspired by these beautiful legends. Just like my obsession, the owner couldn't resist the lure of mermaids. She fell in love with the romance and whimsy of mermaids and came up with the idea of buying a piece of land near the sea and build a mermaid's cradle in the heart of the "birthplace of surfing in the Philippines", Baler.

Of the numerous water-based activities to participate in Aurora, Baler the is most well known for it's surfing. Over the years, many professional surfers have made it their home. The waves range from beginner to advanced depending on which part of the beach you are. My friends and I, wanted to experience the waves but we are to afraid of surfing so we just literally catch the waves instead. We run towards it! haha We let our childish ways out for a day at the beach! We experienced being caught up and washed out by the wild waves. L'Sirene also provides surfing lessons for those who want to experience the waves that Baler is known for. Surf's up,Fins up!

Mermaids Cradle

If you're a non-surfer and looking for a quieter spot to relax? Try L'Sirene for a more secluded experience. It's a place where you'll find peace in the cozy little mermaids cradle. You still have things-to-do in the resort even you're not brave enough to ride the waves. You can take unlimited photos in the insta-worthy spots in L'Sirene and feel the sand on your tails, have a splash in the pool and lounge with other merfolk (as what they call the visitors.) It's located few miles away from the crowded beach front of Sabang (where most of the surfer and non-surfer catches the huge wild waves.)

After a long day of swimming and surfing, there's nothing small about your appetite. But you won't want to miss the plate at Hungry Mermaid, a hippie restaurant known for it's relaxed atmosphere and delish dishes.

Just like them I am empowered because I know my strengths and I'm not afraid to embrace them. I have the full control of my life, I'm aware of my capabilities, and I'm ready to take on even may biggest dreams.In a time like this, saying that I'm EMPOWERED might sounds easy – but truly being empowered is a different story.
